Come and Spend Some Time for Yourself
There are many things to do here in the Jemez Mountains, Biking, Hiking, Fishing, Hunting, and for those of you who don't care for these types of sports, there are many quaint little shops in the small Village of Jemez Springs.
Fishing
Holy Ghost Springs and Dragonfly Reservoir, located on the Jemez Pueblo, is a popular water recreation area, it is accessible from HWY 44 between San Ysidro and Cuba. Fenton Lake is another popular location for many reasons, including platforms for wheelchair accessibility. Ice fishing here during the winter months is a wonderful experience. Fly-fishing enthusiasts frequently visit the Rio Cebolla, here in the Jemez Mountains. The stream accross the way is regularly stocked with fish.
Hiking
Historic Jemez State Monument is known for it's notable exhibits, and picnic areas. Further along HWY 4 is Soda Dam, an intriguing geologic formation where minerals of a natural hot spring have created a dam that blocks the Jemez river. Battleship Rock rises majestically like the prow of a ship just a few miles north. The settlement of La Cueva marks the intersection of HWY 4 and State Road 126. Here the Jemez Mountain Trail goes both right and left. You may choose which direction you would like to go in, depending on your interests and time.
Mountain Biking
From old logging trails to aspen meadows, Sandoval County is an off-road cyclists dream. The Jemez Mountains have an abundance of trails suitable for mountain bikers as well as those on foot, with various degrees of difficulty.
